Let Me Get This Straight

So, now the UN wants the US to stay in Iraq. The Iraqi government wants US forces to stay in Iraq. The Republican party in the US wants to finish the job in Iraq. These groups all see that if Iraq is ever to become a peaceful nation, it will be with a lot of help from American troops.

So it boggles the mind to see Democrats falling over each other calling for withdrawal. They seem to be the only party involved that is more than happy to let the people of Iraq suffer in their current state. Not to mention that they don't see a problem in letting Al-Queda in Iraq create a new state-sponsor of terror.

New Stephane Dion Commercial

The Liberals have released their latest ad promoting Stephane Dion (h/t).

First, watch the video.

Now a little perspective from The Manitoban.
That would be the same 2005 climate change conference at which Dion received the insulting "fossil award" from the Climate Action Network, the same award given to Rona Ambrose in 2006. Of course when Ambrose, a Conservative, received the award it was front-page news and there was outrage that she dare go against Kyoto. When Dion received the same award, there was barely a mention. No media bias there.

But doesn't Stephane Dion look cute playing with his gavel?
Update: Jason Cherniak points out in the comments that Stephane Dion did not win the "fossil of the day" award in 2005 - he finished second to Japan. But he did win it in 2004. Stephen Taylor also points out that the previous Liberal environmental Minister David Anderson won the fossil award three times. The Liberals record on the environment is not something they should be promoting.

The Russians Are Coming

Jeff Nyquist writes of another impending war on the horizon (h/t New Zeal).
People living a hundred years from now will be puzzled by today’s America. The signs of impending destructive war are everywhere. We do not see the signs because we do not want to see them. This is true in the White House, at the CIA, in the major newspapers and within major corporations. Russia and China are maneuvering against the United States on all fronts. Russia and China are supporting Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc. All the worst regimes, led by criminals and butchers, are supported by Moscow and Beijing. The objective is to arm as many rogue states as possible. And the reason for doing so is transparent.
A researcher and former news editor wrote the following note to me last week: "Russia has been conducting war in Chechnya for years, slaughtering, raping, imprisoning and displacing Muslims. Russia slaughtered Muslims for ten years in Afghanistan. Russia is 'right next door' [to the terrorists]. Yet bin Laden, allegedly tired of what has been done to Muslim peoples, chose to attack... the United States. Bin Laden ignores the enemy who has been slaughtering Muslims in his backyard for two decades and instead targets a nation thousands of miles away..."

The tie that binds is pure unbiased anti-Americanism.

New Sheriff in Town

New UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has been showing signs that he may actually recognize Israel's right to defend itself.
In a statement based on observations from the U.N. Interim Force in Lebanon, Mr. Ban said the Lebanese armed forces fired the initial shot in the first armed clash on the border since the war with Hezbollah last August. Mr. Ban also indicated that their target, an Israel Defense Force bulldozer, was operating inside Israel's territory.

But the Security Council, which later issued its own statement, made no reference to the secretary-general's comments. Instead, it reverted to familiar U.N. language and appealed to "all parties" to respect the cease-fire.

Unlike his predecessor Kofi Annan, it seems Mr. Ban is not afraid of telling the unvarnished truth. Hopefully Mr. Ban can continue to lead the UN on this path.

Annan Regrets Iraq

Kofi Annan reflects on his career at the UN:
At his final news conference before leaving the office of Secretary-General of the United Nations, a post he held for 10 years, he said his greatest regrets were not preventing the Iraq war and losing colleagues and friends in the bombing of the UN compound in Baghdad.

A few things to keep in mind: Kofi Annan was in office during the Rwanda Genocide, where between 800,000 and 1,100,000 people were killed in a 100 day span.

Or that the "conflict" in Darfur has killed 400,000 already, with 2,500,000 refugees. And, what's Kofi done? Talked a lot of smoke, thats what.

In fact, the only war that Kofi Annan has been against in the last ten years, is Iraq. The same Iraq that was headed by Saddam Hussein, who killed 100,000 of his own Kurdish subjects. The same Iraq which was embroiled in the Oil-For-Food Programme, which may or may not have padded his families pockets. So it's no wonder Kofi would be so quick to defend a genocidal maniac.

I don't think Kofi regrets preventing the Iraq War for any humanitarian reasons. I think he regrets preventing it because it disrupted his Oil-For-Food racket.

Again, just a few things to keep in mind while Kofi sheds crocodile tears.
