Michael Vick Has A New Problem

As if the charges relating to dog-fighting weren't bad enough for Michael Vick. Now he's facing a lawsuit for $63 billion, filed by South Carolina convict Jonathan Lee Riches.
Riches alleges that Vick stole two white mixed pit bull dogs from his home in Holiday, Fla., and used them for dogfighting operations in Richmond, Va. The complaint goes on to allege that Vick sold the dogs on eBay and "used the proceeds to purchase missiles from the Iran government."

The complaint also alleges that Vick would need those missiles because he pledged allegiance to Al Qaeda in February of this year.

Who knew Al-Queda was purchasing weapons from Iran, through NFL stars with funding coming from underground dog-fighting operations? Perhaps this is a case of 'too strange to be true'.

Re-Cap Iraq Roundup

I had saved this as a draft a few months ago.... In hindsight I think this roundup pretty much answers the question, "What's going on Iraq?" I think in short the answer is, "so little, the MSM doesn't cover it anymore". The lack of news from Iraq is good news.

Democrats want failure in Iraq (h/t).
Many Democrats have anticipated that, at best, Petraeus and U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker would present a mixed analysis of the success of the current troop surge strategy, given continued violence in Baghdad. But of late there have been signs that the commander of U.S. forces might be preparing something more generally positive. [House Majority (D) Whip James] Clyburn said that would be "a real big problem for us."

American death toll in Iraq hits 8 month low.

Even the New York Times is now willing to admit the war is winnable, and that the "surge" is working.
Here is the most important thing Americans need to understand: We are finally getting somewhere in Iraq, at least in military terms. As two analysts who have harshly criticized the Bush administration’s miserable handling of Iraq, we were surprised by the gains we saw and the potential to produce not necessarily "victory" but a sustainable stability that both we and the Iraqis could live with.

American troops have recovered more insurgent weapons in the first six months of this year than all of 2006.

Football victory unites Iraq’s feuding leaders.
Iraq’s Shiite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki called the win - shared by a national football squad of Shiite Arab, Sunni Arab, and Kurdish players - "a lesson in how to triumph over the impossible to realise victory." [...]

Iraq’s Kurdish president, Jalal Talabani, also praised the team, promising an award of 10,000 US dollars to every player, and 20,000 dollars to Younis Mohammed who scored the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia. [...]

Tariq al-Hashemi, the country’s Sunni Arab vice president, called on the players to bring their rare show of national unity to the seat of government, where Kurdish, Shiite, and Sunni lawmakers have been bickering for weeks.

"There is still hope for a unified, secure and independent Iraq where all live well. There is still an opportunity, thank God," Hashemi said.

"I call on the team and everyone who works with it to come to Baghdad to mount a peaceful demonstration in front of the Green Zone to call on Iraqi politicians to put their differences aside."

Till Death Do Us Part

The Telegraph:
A young wife urged her husband to die as a terrorist martyr and promised she would raise their son to follow in his footsteps, the Old Bailey heard yesterday.

Bouchra El Hor, 24, allegedly wrote in a letter that she wished she could also die in the same way and looked forward to them being reunited as a family in heaven. (snip)

"His wife was not only aware of his intention, but positively encouraged it, despite the fact that his actions would almost certainly result in his death in some form of combat, and would also result in their son being without a father."

El Hor, who is Dutch, and London-born Nassari were followers of "extreme ideology", said Mr Jafferjee.

The letter continued: "The moment has come that you and I have to separate for the sake of Allah. I am so proud of my husband. I am happy that Allah has granted you the chance to be a martyr.

"Maybe one day I can follow you. If I can't, I will send our son to you so he can follow in his father's footsteps."

Where are the human rights activists and leftist lunatics when this mother was offering her new born son as a sacrifice to Allah?

Appeasment Doesn't Work

Appeasing the Nazi's didn't work. It doesn't work with today's Islamic extremists either.

Captain Capitalism:
Remember when Spain elected Zapatero after the Madrid bombings and then Spain pulled out of Iraq as a way to appease the Islamic terrorists? That was supposed to make things all better right? Like then the terrorists would have left Spain and Spaniards alone. Right?

Riiiiiiight.

Benamar Benatta

Thomas Walkom writes today about "Another 9/11 Victim".

The way Walkom tells the story, Benamar Benatta was victimized by our government because he was deported to the US after 9/11 and detained for five years, even though it turns out he has no ties to terrorism.

Benatta's background makes it a little clearer why he was detained for as long as he was; he threw up a tonne of red flags. Benatta came to the U.S. in 2000 while on a military training assignment for the Algerian Air Force, of which Benatta was an 8 year veteran. The U.S. assisted Algeria in military matters because the government was allied with the Algerian government against the opposition Islamic party. Benatta unfortunately, being a Muslim, didn't seem to appreciate all the years of fighting his own people.

In April 2001, while in the U.S. for training, Benatta defected from his Army, and jumped a bus from Baltimore to New York. Benatta spent the next five months in New York, where his visa expired. Sometime while in New York, Benatta decided to try to get political asylum in Canada, and purchased faked identification.

On September 5, 2001, Benatta showed up at the Canadian border seeking asylum - but using his fake papers. He was detained at the border until an investigation could confirm his real identity.

On September 12, 2001, some unknown Canadian immigration official decided it was best to deport Benatta back to the U.S. based on the following evidence:
Of course, the most damaging circumstantial evidence came on September 11, when 19 Muslims of middle-eastern descent, who had received flight training in the United States, crashed two airliners into the World Trade Center, one into the Pentagon, and the fourth was suspected to have been targeting the White House.

Benatta's story is tragic for sure. But it's not Canada's job to protect every single foreigner who shows up at our border, especially when they're trying to lie their way into our country.

Ironically, since Benatta was released by the U.S. Canada has granted him temporary resident status to pursue his status as a refugee. Which are hardly the actions of an irrational racist government. Benatta was a victim of circumstance, nothing more.

With 'Em Or Against 'Em

George W. Bush gets it, and apparently so does the Al-Qaeda leadership.
Al-Qaeda has called for terrorist strikes against Canada's oil and natural gas facilities to "choke the U.S. economy."

An online message, posted by The Al-Qaeda Organization in the Arabian Peninsula, declares "we should strike petroleum interests in all areas which supply the United States ... like Canada," the No. 1 supplier of both fuels to the U.S.

It's the second time since 9/11 that Al-Qaeda has mentioned Canada by name. Interestingly, this comes at the same time that Canada's anti-terror laws are about to expire.

A Second FLQ Letter

The FLQ group known as the Camille Laurin cell has written another letter to Jean Charest, and French President Jacques Chirac. Like the first letter sent out by this cell, they have named February 15 as the date their bombing campaign will begin.

In this weeks letter, they specifically mention highways and high-traffic areas as targets along with airports and crowded shopping malls, adding "a combination of vehicles, letter bombs, remote-control explosive devices will be used and most of these devices are already in place."

The RCMP is mum on the situation. RCMP Corporal Luc Bessette said "We have no indication that they are able to carry out what they threaten. Is it a hoax? That's possible. Is it real? That's possible too. The RCMP takes seriously all threats against our citizens." They have also indicated that they're working with CSIS on this threat.

The timing of the threats may be important as well. With a federal budget about to drop in mid-March, the FLQ cell may be hoping to effect a Federal election which could follow, or the Provincial election to soon follow as well in Quebec.

Interestingly, the federal budget is alleged to contain an extra $2 billion for Quebec in equalization payments. That, along with the Canadian governments recognition of the Quebecois as "a distinct nation within Canada", may blind Quebecers to the "anglo-saxon imperialism" which motivates this cell.

If the RCMP finds anybody connected to this threat, they should be treated like the terrorists they are, and not like the terrorists in Caledonia.

Terrorist Resurgence In Quebec

With Canada's weak stand on domestic terrorism, most notably the the standoff at Caledonia, it's not a surprise to find out that the FLQ are making a come back.

The latest letter sent out by a group claiming to be a cell of the FLQ, sets February 15th as the date they intend to start their new round of attacks. These attacks would be in retaliation for "Anglo-Saxon imperialism" in Quebec.

The government, now has two options. Treat these FLQ threats the way they treated Caledonia, and hope the letter-writer doesn't follow through on their threats. This would be employing the old Canadian defense policy of "bend, but don't break".

The other option would be to go after these guys like the they went after the 17 Islamic terrorists arrested in Toronto last summer. Hunt them down, lock them up, and treat them like the terrorists they are. No public statements, no large protest rallies, just indefinite solitude.

If there were ever a reason for domestic-terror laws, this would be it. I'm sure nobody in La Belle Province forgets the October Crisis, when two provincial cabinet ministers were kidnapped, with one being murdered. The October Crisis was the culmination of a campaign of bombings, bank robberies, and other violent crimes by the FLQ.

In 1970 Pierre Trudeau (not exactly the fighting type) invoked the War Measures Act in Quebec. In an unrelated story, Stephen Harper is planning on recognizing Quebec as a "distinct nation within Canada". Is that what the FLQ refers to as "anglo-saxon imperialism"?

New Terrorist Group Uncovered

No, I'm not talking about the big around Toronto today.

I'm talking about the Ontario faction of the CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees). They have decided to boycott Isreal in support of the Palestinian cause.

The Ontario CUPE will promote hatred toward the state of Israel, and Canada:
With Palestine solidarity and human rights organization, develop an education campaign about the apartheid nature of the Israeli state and the political and economic support of Canada for these practices.

These rotten bastards are a pretty big, powerful union. And thats some pretty sad shit that they're supporting.
