China: Growth Before Green
After previously bashing the Green Party's economic platform, I was glad to see the headline Growth trumps environment in China report.
Even Communist China understands human nature better than Manitoba's Green party. But an even bigger concern is the fact that the world's biggest polluter is putting environmental concerns on the back burner for economic growth. Meanwhile back in Canada, the Greens, Liberals, NDP, and Conservatives battle over who can appear to be the Greenest of them all. It would be nice if we could get the same kind of brutal honesty from our own government.
It appears that the Liberals/Greens and the NDP have pushed the Harper government too far while tinkering with the Conservatives Clean Air Act, and the government will be forced to abandon the legislation. Frankly, this will be a good thing in the long run. The Clean Air Act was thrown together in haste for purely political purposes. It would be fair to say that something like Kyoto, which has the potential to devesate our economy, should be an election issue.

The Russians Are Coming
Jeff Nyquist writes of another impending war on the horizon (h/t New Zeal).
The tie that binds is pure unbiased anti-Americanism.
People living a hundred years from now will be puzzled by today’s America. The signs of impending destructive war are everywhere. We do not see the signs because we do not want to see them. This is true in the White House, at the CIA, in the major newspapers and within major corporations. Russia and China are maneuvering against the United States on all fronts. Russia and China are supporting Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc. All the worst regimes, led by criminals and butchers, are supported by Moscow and Beijing. The objective is to arm as many rogue states as possible. And the reason for doing so is transparent.
A researcher and former news editor wrote the following note to me last week: "Russia has been conducting war in Chechnya for years, slaughtering, raping, imprisoning and displacing Muslims. Russia slaughtered Muslims for ten years in Afghanistan. Russia is 'right next door' [to the terrorists]. Yet bin Laden, allegedly tired of what has been done to Muslim peoples, chose to attack... the United States. Bin Laden ignores the enemy who has been slaughtering Muslims in his backyard for two decades and instead targets a nation thousands of miles away..."
The tie that binds is pure unbiased anti-Americanism.

The Chinese Are Fucked
I'm not a reactionary fuck like some, but somethings just chap my ass beyond... reasonable chapping of the ass. I don't harp on the Communists in China too much, mostly because it's futile to challenge the most populous largest countries in the world.
That has changed, and I'm declaring war. Why you ask? Trevor Loudon pointed me to a fantastic website called The Great Firewall of China. It will tell you if a particular URL is banned in China or not.
Obviously my first test was Natedawg.org, and I'm glad to report that, for the time being, the Chinese can still read this website, though it has been banned in the past. Which explains some things. I've had 12 readers on this blog in the last 9 months from Iran, but none from China. I found that odd.
There are a lot of websites that aren't allowed by the Chinese government. But what shocked the hell out of me though, is that the Homestar Runner is banned in China! Homestar basically brought "Web 2.0" to the masses, and is the greatest internet cartoon to ever run. The length of their run speaks for itself.
So back to Communism; are the Chinese not allowed a momentary chuckle from time to time? Homestar is far from being political in nature, its just funny crap. I hereby call on the Chinese government to allow their citizenry the right to access Homestar.
