Till Death Do Us Part

The Telegraph:
A young wife urged her husband to die as a terrorist martyr and promised she would raise their son to follow in his footsteps, the Old Bailey heard yesterday.

Bouchra El Hor, 24, allegedly wrote in a letter that she wished she could also die in the same way and looked forward to them being reunited as a family in heaven. (snip)

"His wife was not only aware of his intention, but positively encouraged it, despite the fact that his actions would almost certainly result in his death in some form of combat, and would also result in their son being without a father."

El Hor, who is Dutch, and London-born Nassari were followers of "extreme ideology", said Mr Jafferjee.

The letter continued: "The moment has come that you and I have to separate for the sake of Allah. I am so proud of my husband. I am happy that Allah has granted you the chance to be a martyr.

"Maybe one day I can follow you. If I can't, I will send our son to you so he can follow in his father's footsteps."

Where are the human rights activists and leftist lunatics when this mother was offering her new born son as a sacrifice to Allah?

Kyoto: Just Doer

Manitoba's NDP Premier Gary Doer is a big supporter of the Kyoto protocol. In fact, Doer is such a Kyoto supporter, that he's campaigning on making Manitoba the first province in Canada to adopt Kyoto targets in legislation, to be met by 2012.

The problem is that Manitoba's emissions are growing, not shrinking. From 1990 to 2003 Manitoba's Greenhouse Gas emissions rose by 11.5%.

Probably most importantly, Gary Doer and the NDP don't have a plan to reduce emissions in Manitoba. The only plan the NDP has in place too meet Kyoto targets is to generate more hydro-electricity for export to Ontario, which does nothing to reduce emissions at home, but will hopefully provide enough carbon credits to meet our Kyoto targets.

The problem with reducing emissions in Manitoba is that most of our emissions come from transportation and farming, ie. the bulk of our economy. So to meet Kyoto targets, Doer had to come up with a way to reduce emissions without reducing emissions... and believe it or not, the carbon credit trading scheme in the Kyoto accord allows for just that!

The problems with carbon credit trading are detailed by the Financial Times here and here. Basically the problem in Britain is that government incentives to reduce emissions have artificially raised demand for carbon credits beyond what technology can be supplied. This artificially high demand for carbon credits raises the price of a carbon credit through the roof. And too often, because of financial incentives provided by the government, it doesn't matter to the purchaser that the 1kt reduction in GHG he just bought didn't actually reduce GHG gases by 1kt, because he's got his carbon credits and thats all he needs to appear to be the greenest guy on the block.

When Gary Doer talks about the opportunities created by being green, he's really talking about getting rich selling worthless carbon credits. It makes one very wary about Gary's sincerity on environmental issues.

Two Princes

Current prince and heir to the Liberal throne Justin Trudeau (h/t SDA).
His [Trudeau] two-month campaign to win grassroots support might have been the hardest work he has done in his 35 years. And of the three candidates' organizations, his did the best job of getting his supporters to the nominating meeting and keeping them there through a wait in line of up to two hours to vote.

In contrast we have Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne.
The head of the British army said yesterday he has personally decided that Prince Harry will serve with a combat unit in Iraq, where 100 American troops and 12 British soldiers were killed in April.

Prince Harry's bravery and determination should be remembered for a long long time. The Royal family have a deep and proud military history. Pierre Trudeau will be remembered most for his economic ineptness.

Conspiracy Bitch

Rosie O'Donnell: America-hating conspiracy bitch (h/t).
Rosie thinks the situation with British soldiers in Iran was staged by the British and US as a pretext for war.

If the West wanted a war with Iran, it would be done. The Iranian nuclear program would be all the pretext needed. Along with the constant threats to Israel, meddling in Iraq, destabilizing Lebanon, and supporting Hamas; there are plenty of good reasons to attack Iran. Also, Britain has provided evidence proving that the British ship was in Iraqi waters when it was ambushed. Yet Rosie takes sides with the genocidal Iranian regime.

She claims that America is brainwashed by a media conspiracy. Yet if you read a newspaper in Britain, Canada, The Netherlands, Germany, France, any country with a free press, and the news will remain the same. While opinions may differ, the facts remain the same. Rosie would rather get her news from state-controlled sources, while at the same time dismissing every word from George W. Bush's mouth out of hand as a lie.

Rosie thinks that all Americans are bigots and have "dehumanized" the people of the middle east. Yet America has lost thousands of troops in an attempt to make the middle east a better place by overthrowing tyrannical regime's like Saddam's and the Taliban. Even the media, which she disregards as an American propaganda machine, on a daily basis vilifies American troops and broadcasts propaganda disseminated from known terror organizations.

Meanwhile, she defends the Iranian regime; the same regime that stages rallies where thousands fill public squares to chant "Death to America". The regime that sentences women to death for being raped. The regime that proudly performs public executions. The regime that parades American and British soldiers, both dead and alive, on international television for propaganda purposes. The genocidal regimes of the middle east do more to dehumanize their people than America could in a hundred years.

She thinks the War on Terror is nothing but propaganda. She implies that the US government played a part in the attacks, propagating the conspiracy theory about building WTC 7, regardless of the fact that every argument she makes has been thoroughly refuted.

Rosie's lack of information in this rant is proof that she hates America. Any person who'd bash their own country to the benefit of an enemy, while promoting lies and enemy propaganda, clearly is not a patriot. I for one will be boycotting ABC until Rosie is fired, or the CIA covertly throws her sorry America-hating ass into Guantanamo.

Brits Sharing Load Also

It was noted previously that the Aussies are planning on sending more troops to Afghanistan for spring.

Now the Brits are following suit.
Defence Secretary Des Browne is expected to make a Commons statement on Monday setting out details of the new deployment to reinforce the British taskforce in the troubled southern province of Helmand.

More than 1,000 extra troops - together with additional equipment - will be sent, according to a report in The Guardian.

The details apparently leaked out after Mr. Browne briefed the weekly meeting of the Cabinet at No 10 yesterday.

Not to be forgotten, The Americans are diverting 3200 troops from Iraq to Afghanistan.
The US says that 3,200 troops of the 173rd Airborne Brigade will be deployed to Afghanistan in the spring, instead of Iraq.

The Taliban don't stand a chance in hell.

The Right To Hard Drugs

This one comes from a guy who is quickly becoming my favorite Neo-Con. The article is here, and it refers to Britian, not Canada.

Prisoners are set to be paid compensation because they were forced to stop taking drugs in jail.
(snip)
The case - alleging the "cold turkey" withdrawal treatment they were forced to undergo amounted to assault - was scheduled to start at the High Court today.
(snip)
When finally resolved this week, all 198 may be handed compensation by the Prison Service - with sums potentially running into tens of thousands of pounds (ed. thats twenty-thousands of dollars in CAD).
(snip)
They also claimed human rights breaches under Articles 3 and 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which ban discrimination, torture or inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment and Article 8, which enshrines the right to respect for private life.
(snip)
Prison Reform Trust director Juliet Lyon said: "The outcome of this case could cause courts to pause for thought before using a prison sentence as a gateway to treatment. Our overcrowded jails are awash with petty, persistent offenders who commit crime to feed their drug habit. Rather than trying, and failing, to turn prisons into hospitals, the government needs to get to grips with drugs policy, invest in community health treatment for addictions and use prison for drug barons, not downtrodden mules and homeless addicts."

This sets a precedent. If the jails can't force people off of smack, they'll have to supply them with it. Should the Queen become Britian's biggest dope-dealer?

As a huge drug enthusiast, I think not. I'd rather enjoy my jail-days to be a brief look into the life of sobriety. Then again, I'm not hitting the syringe daily. Yeah for booze and blunts.
