Scott Fielding Has An Idea
And it's a damn good idea (h/t).
Scott Fielding has a website at www.scottfielding.ca, and the petition to begin evening and weekend construction in Winnipeg can be signed here.
This idea makes sense environmentally and economically. With fewer cars idling in congested traffic due to construction, emissions from cars will be significantly reduced. Better flowing traffic has it's own economic merits. Fielding's plan also has the potential to create more jobs and to fix and maintain roads more efficiently. It's a no-brainer.
It's nice to see a city councilor with some realistic vision, for a change. Grandiose visions of billion dollar rapid transit systems are fine and dandy, but it's little ideas like evening and weekend construction that will have an impact in a short period of time, with a small short-term cost and large long-term payoffs.
Scott Fielding deserves to be congratulated for this initiative, and Sam Katz should be listening to his ideas (as opposed to writing crap like this). If your so obliged, go sign his petition.

Not only that Nate Dawg....the people are loving this idea. The Free press poll has a 90% approval rating for the idea. The city are MORONS if they don't listen to Scott.
Not just morons... they'd be just plain negligent if they dodn't follow through with this. If there is one very simple stroke of the pen that could make this city less shitty, this is it. We'll see if citizens or the (fucking) unions run the city.

The safe money is on the unions sadly.
