Conrad Black Case Begins To Unravel

Prosecutors closed their case against Lord Conrad Black today. They wrapped up their case by dropping the charges of money laundering against Black.

I suspect the prosecution is trying to save a bit of face by dropping these charges. If thats the case, they should probably drop the case entirely and re-try him for being a rich old bastard with exquisite taste, which is the only thing he seems to be guilty of.

Each of the prosecutions star witnesses has been an abysmal failure. Many of them admitted to being liars, signing documents which they never read, and most have made more from this whole ordeal than the defendants are accused of stealing in the first place. And I lost count of how many of the prosecutions witnesses had plea agreements with the US government, but there were certainly more plea bargains than there are defendants.

While the case has garnered little attention in the Canadian MSM, I suspect that will change when the defense starts calling witnesses. For more, check out Mark Steyn and Susan Berger.
