Tragedy Virginia Tech
Thirty-three people were tragically murdered today at Virginia Tech in one of the worst mass-shooting sprees in recent American history.
Police are not releasing much information yet. What is known is that the shooter took his own life. Two of the fatalities happened in a dorm room two hours before the other incident happened. It's unknown how many people were injured. The shooter can not yet be identified, because he had no ID and shot himself in the face.
As expected, the terrible incident raises the debate in Canada about the long-gun registry. The tragic incident comes days after the Stephen Harper government confirmed an extension of the long-gun registry deadline.
An interesting comment came from NDP Whip Yvon Godin on Mike Duffy Live this afternoon. Godin pointed out, correctly, that this deranged maniac could have just as easily driven a car 100mph through the campus and killed just as many people, but that doesn't mean we'd ban cars.
The reason that school shootings resonate so strongly with the public, is because for 99% of us school is/was a pretty safe place. The worst fears most people have when they go to school is getting a bloody nose from a bully.

How the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of any gun other than a single shot hunting rifle is still legal is beyond my understanding.
and a car could, MAYBE have caused that much carnage... maybe. if the radiator were protected by a redneck brush guard. a car's primary purpose isn't to kill people, it's transportation. an automatic/semi automatic rifle or handgun's primary purpose is to kill. and i don't want any of this 'but it's my right' or 'i have it for self defense' bullshit. Then it's my right to have my own personal nukes, and anyone else in the world as well.
i want less gun fights and more knife fights. less blasting, more slashing.
