Conrad Black Trial
If you've read a newspaper in the last week, you know that Conrad Black is up on trumped up charges in the US.
Normally such a case wouldn't interest me. In this case, it does because the charges are hollow, and I read many of the newspapers Black used to own (London Telegraph, National Post, Jerusalem Post).
The best coverage of the Conrad Black trial is being provided by Mark Steyn. Steyn's
blogging it for MacLeans. Another great source, pointed out in the comments, is Blacks Justice, being blogged by Chicago writer Susan Berger. Both are must reads.
For the absolute worst coverage of the Conrad Black trial, see The Toronto Star. This article by Rosie DiManno is proof. Reading that, you'd think that the trial was about... well, you'd have no damn clue that there was actually a trial going on.
I've posted earlier about how this was just a big show trial. It doesn't get any showier than the big story of the week, which was that
Lady Black allegedly called some CBC Radio producer a "slut", and described the media as "vermin" (link). Which as shocking as it may be coming from a Lady of such class and beauty, doesn't deserve the media attention that it received - it is really quite inconsequential. But sex sells and as such, a story about a dirty slut from the CBC will sell better than a story about a grumpy old man who's getting shafted from all sides by other grumpy old men.
