The Dion Bomb
Ezra Levant drops the first bomb on Stephan Dion, revealing that Stephane Dion is a French citizen. How this didn't come up during the convention is beyond me. I wonder how many Liberals at the convention knew about this? It's the kind of thing that could seriously affect Dion's election chances. Surely the Conservatives will make Canadians very aware that Dion is a dual-citizen. It will definitely not bode well for him west of Quebec.
As it turns out, he's got a good excuse:
Mr. Dion's mother, Denyse, was a real-estate agent. Born in Paris, she gave her children their dual citizenship; Léon Dion would joke he was the only one in the household to be solely Canadian.
(Mr. Dion does not have a French passport and has not voted in a French election, his staff says.)
But that doesn't make it alright. If Dion truly doesn't have any ties to France as his staff claims, he should renounce his French citizenship. Even Michelle Jean renounced her French cizitzenship, and she was born in Haiti, a former French colony.
