A Thing Called Principal

I like reading blogs, because they give (in a perfect universe) a very diverse set of opinions. Part of appreciating diversity, at least in my humble opinion, is finding the "bright side" in things that you hate. Blogs that fit that description in my opinion is the Lemon Chicken. He lives in a backwards world, but he provides valuable insight into that world - and its well-written backwardsness.

Today The Chicken posts about how one shouldn't "write an article in your university paper or on your blog about driving while high" if your planning on running for office. And he's mostly right. If you plan on running for office based on a platform that is non-committal and purely populist (like many Liberal MPs, candidates, delegates, etc).

He refers to a Liberal-planted article about Ontario Conservative Leader John Tory... and his views 30-years ago.
Conservative Leader John Tory used marijuana as a high school and university student, once favoured lighter sentences for pot traffickers and even drove while "stoned."

The revelations are contained in a 30-year-old newspaper column that Tory wrote as a law student for Obiter Dicta, the official student newspaper of Osgoode Hall Law School.

John Tory has yet to appologize for smoking the ganja, and has yet to deny the allegations (it would be hard, since he authored the proof). Would Shae prefer if John claimed that he didn't inhale?

I'm sure that there are many politicians in Canada that "didn't inhale". I'd bet good money that guys like Garth Turner doesn't inhale every night. Bill Graham doesn't inhale every time he opens his mouth. Stephen Harper has yet to utilize his lungs, and the French Quebecois-guy just sells it - but won't smoke it.

The fact is, that everybody either HAS smoked The Green, or they're doing it right now. I'm going to break Shea's rule, and "admit" that I'm one of the "doing it right now"-types. The picture of me smoking a massive joint, which appears occasionally onLoad() of this page, might have tipped you off.

My beliefs about marijuana are long and complex. But John Tory's are not: He smoked weed when he was young, and he doesn't anymore. Or does nobody care?

If anybody out there wants to boycott my blog because I smoke weed, please leave comments below. I won't apologize, but I'll reply.
