Quick Hits

I am stunned. I was absolutely sure that the Republican's were going to hold both houses. My reasons were: the NYT admission of a nuclear program in Iraq, and John Kerry's comments about how stupid the armed forces are. I am presently filled with fear and loathing of the Democrats. I will only be satisfied once Dick Cheney personally water-boards Nancy Pelosi.

At this point, its too close to call the Senate... and it'll probably remain that way for a few weeks (until the courts decide how many people who voted Republican actually meant to vote Democrat?!) Either way, congratulations America - you've just wasted the next two years.

By the way, if you've watched the CBC at all tonight, you'd be lead to believe that George Bush was impeached - and the House of Rep's in the USA now controls the Prime Minsters Office here in Canada.

The Toronto Raptors are going to be a great basketball team this year. The new GM pillaged Europe for the best basketball players, and its going to pay off huge. Toronto fans can rest well at night, knowing that once the Maple Leafs shit the bed, they'll still have a team to cheer for come spring (and the Leafs will eat it yet, mark my words).

Since I just trashed the Leafs, mad props to my boy Ian White. I had the pleasure of watching Ian progress as a hockey player (he was my little brothers defence partner for five years... and his midget coach was my uncle), and he has always wowed those who watched him. He's now making a name for himself in the NHL as the smallest defenceman in the league, and scoring a lot of points. Too bad he has to play with Darcy Tucker.

On the note of family achievement... My Uncle Dave (not the same uncle as mentioned above) won the Giller Prize for fiction last year. This years winner Vincent Lam, won for a series of short stories called Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures. Mr. Lim is a doctor. I'm not going to say he was undeserving, but the field was weaker this year than in years past.

Britney Spears filed for divorce... Natedawg's got a chance again!

More veil bullshit in the UK. Interestingly, this time the veil-wearer is a female lawyer. And again, the judge was having difficulty communicating with her (due to the veil).

Another one of a thousand reasons to buy an Xbox 360 rather than a PS3. XBox Live will now offer downloads of movies and TV shows. Video-gamers no longer have any reason to put down their bong.

And last but not least... Don Cherry visited parliament today. He was invited by Stephen Harper (who's apparently a big fan - he once even asked Cherry to run).

As evidence of how out of touch with reality the opposition is, they called the 7th Greatest Canadian of all time a "racist".

The List is badly discredit with the inclussion of Tommy Douglas at #1 (Douglas supported sterilizing mentally and physically disabled people), and Pierre Trudeau at #3 (Supported Hitler in his early years, and is single-handedly responsible for destroying any idea of "Canadian Values").

Discredited or not, The List does reflect Canadians' views. When the bloc condemns Cherry as racist, they are in a way accusing Canadians of being racist.
Comments:
No worries on the elections, my man. The Dems don't have meaningful control, they'll possibly play a more obstructionist role, but they certainly don't have the power to change course substantially. Besides, given the mountain of negative press Bush and Co. have received over the last 2 years, I'd say that this was effectively a defeat for the Dems. most midterm elections in the US are much more dramatic. See Coulter's latest column to learn more.
