Canadian Democracy Goes To Washington
Via Shae @ Lemon Chicken & Lawn Signs, we see that the midterm elections in the United States are not quite over.
It would appear that Joe Lieberman is taking political-how-to's from the likes of Belinda Stronach, David Emerson, and Garth Turner. Lieberman, who was a little too Republican for his Democratic constituents, is contemplating a formal switch to the Republican party.
This would be front-page news, if the media weren't too caught up covering the mid-term referendum on the Iraq war. The story every newspaper has been selling the last week, is that the Republican's got beat-down bad in last weeks mid-terms.
In reality the Senate is split 50-50, because Lieberman votes with the Republicans more than he does the Democrats. That leaves the Senate in the hands of Dick Neocon-Of-The-Millenium Cheney for tie-breaking votes. Which is not fun news for those who've been trumpeting how Democrats now control the political landscape inCanada, at the CBC, and the United States.
On a related note, I'm gonna eat some crowe. Drudge says that Rudy Giuliani is contemplating a run for the Presidency.
Rocketman and I were talking about this possibility a week ago, and I was adamant that Rudy was too old and too tired to take the chance. "Why go from America's Mayor to America's President" was my question. Apparently Rudy has a reason.
If Giuliani were to run for President, I'm pretty sure he'd be a shoe-in. The man has an impeccable record for getting the job done. In fact, I think he could personify the death of the Democratic party.
The Democrats have taken the roll of "the official opposition" in American politics. Their ideas are as irrelevant as The Party is. I think that Giulianai could unify the country for the first time, under a Republican banner.
