Child Care Reform
Tom Brodbeck reports on the Scary Conservative Child Care plan:
The MCCA sent out press releases distributed to parents through day-care centres, warning them that if Stephen Harper became prime minister and cancelled the national child- care program, day cares would have no choice but to boost fees.
Well, I'm happy to report eight months later that not only did my child-care fees not go up, they went down.
The program my son attends was also expanded after it received an infusion of cash from the Doer government in August. In fact, my centre got so much cash it's now able to provide the nursery program for free for some low-income parents. Everyone's happy.
On top of that, I'm eligible for the $100 a month child-care supplement created by Harper.
So my fees went down, my program was expanded, and I get an extra $100 a month from Ottawa. Sweet.
