Doing the Right thing

Stephen Harper's latest move in the War on Journalism has caused quite a stir. His 'Bush-like' move of banning media from arrival ceremonies of falled soldiers.

Everybody (even some Conservative's) have been attacking this new policy. The newspapers today were in a complete uproar about the policy. The bloggers of all political stripes are outraged.

One important point has been forgoten during this crucifixion, however. The soldiers prefer it this way. The CBC of all places, points out what should be obvious. That a death in the family is a very personal thing, and there shouldn't necessarily be cameras crawling over the place.

It should also be remembered, that this isn't a ban on mourning a fallen soldier. It's giving the family a few minutes to breath, before the media is all over them, asking questions and what-not.

Personally I think that it should be the families decision to make, but I don't think that this policy is the vicious attack on free speach that many believe it to be. Though it does help Harper in his War on Journalism.

See, I can be blindly partasin too :)
