Weekend Review
I had 0 hits on this blog for the first time yesterday, which is a good indication that I need to get my shit in order. My boss' been getting all Orwellian on me, so it's been tough to find the time... but I will try harder!
There is one piece of news that has been making me laugh, and that is Dick Cheney shooting a hunting buddy. The guy is alright apparently, after being Dicky gave him the shotgun treatment to the face. CNN may have had the best quote from the ranch owner:
Damn, Texas is tough! They just chalk up a shotgun wound to "happens from time to time".
On the topic of murderous sociopaths, Saddam is back in court. I'd really like someone to explain to me why this trial isn't being broadcast during primetime? I always thought these war crime trials were supposed to be for the world to see, to set an example. And can you seriously tell me this wouldn't be 1000 times as exciting as the OJ trial? COMON!
Back on the subject of cartoons.... a certain Western based publication (I won't give them the pleasure of using their name here) decided to publish said cartoons. The usual claim of "freedom of speach" was used to defend the decision. I'd like to point out however, that the actual cartoons were only an issue 2 weeks ago. Now everybody and their dog has seen them on the internet. Clearly this is a ploy to be the first "major" (it's really more of a rag, with few intelligent contributors) Canadian paper to print them (and sell papers), but it comes so late that the "freedom of speach" defense hardly applies anymore. How do you think all the Canadians working in the Middle East appreciate it? Might be time to take those holidays....
Speaking of Canadians overseas.... I watched a fair amount of the Olympics this weekend. The hill they were skiing the Men's downhill on is insane. And I feel sorry for any team who has to play the Canadian Women's Hockey team (other than the United States). Italy took a 16-0 beating (their goaltender was actually friggin' outstanding!), and the Canadians followed that up by beating Russia 12-0.
Oh, and did I mention that Dick Cheney shot one of his "friends" with a shotgun? Some people just can't get enough blood on their hands.
